How ‘Jason’ Finally Felt Present Again: Healing Anxiety with Holistic Therapy
Jason was 29 when we started working together. He said something I’ve heard from so many clients over the years:
“I just want to feel present again. I’m tired of overthinking everything, tired of feeling so disconnected.”
He was a smart, successful guy working in tech, but he was living mostly in his head. From the outside, he looked like he had it all together — but inside, he was spiraling. He told me his thoughts never stopped racing. He’d scroll mindlessly on his phone, binge YouTube videos at night to shut off his brain, and often feel like his body and mind weren’t even in the same room.
He said he felt like he was living on autopilot.
Mind-Body Therapy for Anxiety
When Jason and I started working together, I introduced him to a holistic approach to psychotherapy. This means we didn’t just talk about his anxiety — we worked with how it actually lived in his body and mind.
Our sessions wove together several powerful tools:
Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR): Jason learned to notice his thoughts without getting caught in them. He practiced simple ways to drop into the moment, like sensing his breath or feeling his feet on the ground.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): We gently challenged the catastrophic thought patterns that had become second nature. Jason started noticing when he was “future-tripping” — and learned how to come back to the here and now.
Biofeedback and breathing techniques: I taught Jason how to regulate his nervous system through breath. He learned how to shift out of fight-or-flight and into a calmer state — one he could return to anytime.
Hypnosis for calming the anxious mind: Once he was deeply relaxed, I used gentle hypnosis to help his subconscious anchor to peace, ease, and trust. The recordings allowed him to reinforce this shift between sessions.
“The Only Bad News I Have for You Today Is That You're Human…”
One of the things I still say often — whether in group therapy or individual sessions — is this:
“The only bad news I have for you today is that you’re human.”
It usually gets a quiet laugh. Then I go on to explain:
The human mind runs on autopilot. It rehashes the past. It rehearses the future. It’s constantly scanning for problems to solve. Most of us are rarely in the present moment — and that’s not a personal failure. That’s just how our brains are wired.
For many clients, it’s the first time they hear this — and the relief is almost immediate.
They realize, “I’m not broken. I’m just human.” And from that place of understanding, something shifts. That’s often when the healing begins.
Anxiety Doesn’t Always Look Like Panic
Jason didn’t have panic attacks or classic anxiety symptoms. His anxiety was quieter, but just as powerful. It looked like:
Overthinking every decision
Avoiding social plans because he was “too tired”
Lying awake at night thinking about the future
Feeling disconnected from joy, from presence, even from himself
This kind of anxiety is so common — especially in people who are high-functioning and appear to be coping. But underneath, they’re carrying so much tension.
What He Learned in Holistic Psychotherapy
Jason’s transformation didn’t happen overnight. But session by session, he began to reconnect with himself.
He stopped trying to “fix” the anxiety and started noticing it with curiosity.
He began to feel his body again — not just live in his mind.
He practiced micro-moments of mindfulness throughout the day: closing his eyes at a stoplight, taking a breath before answering a text, slowing down while brushing his teeth.
He started using the hypnosis recordings I created for him nightly. He said they felt like “mental resets” that made the rest of the day more manageable.
Eventually, Jason told me:
“I don’t feel like I’m running from something anymore. I feel like I’m finally here.”
Ready to Reconnect with Yourself?
If you’re tired of living in your head, if you’re longing to feel more grounded, present, and alive — holistic psychotherapy might be what you’re looking for.
Whether you're dealing with anxiety, burnout, or just feeling off, I combine evidence-based psychotherapy with powerful mind-body tools like mindfulness, breathwork, and hypnosis to help you feel more like you again.
All sessions are virtual. If we work with Hypnosis (conducted via WebEx), my voice is recorded so you will have recordings forever. You’ll be in the comfort of your own home, resting your head back, free from distractions — able to fully relax into your own healing space.
