How ‘Emily’ Found Herself Again After Burnout: A Holistic Psychotherapy Journey
Emily, a 38-year-old nonprofit director, felt like she was losing herself in exhaustion and perfectionism. Through holistic therapy—including mindfulness, EFT, CBT, and hypnosis—she finally began to come home to herself. Discover how a trauma-informed, body-centered approach helped her recover from burnout and reconnect with her worth.
“The only bad news I have for you today is that you’re human.”
That’s what I gently told Emily during our first virtual session. She had come to me completely overwhelmed—mentally, emotionally, and physically. Like so many women in helping professions, she was giving everything to others and leaving nothing for herself.
“I don’t even know who I am anymore,” she confessed through tears.
The truth is, she wasn’t broken. She was burned out.
And as I explained how the human mind often runs on autopilot—rehearsing the future and rehashing the past—she sighed with relief. For the first time, she realized she wasn’t the only one wired this way.
A Holistic Approach to Burnout Recovery
We didn’t just talk about her stress. We started working with her entire system—mind, body, and spirit.
Through mindfulness-based stress reduction, she began to slow down, tune in, and build awareness. These weren’t long meditations or anything too complicated. Just a few minutes a day of breathwork, body scans, and checking in with her needs.
Soon, Emily noticed how often she said “yes” when she meant “no.” Guilt and fear of disappointing others were running the show. That’s where EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) came in. Using tapping, she was able to acknowledge and release long-held emotions tied to her perfectionism and over-responsibility.
We gently uncovered some of her core beliefs:
“If I slow down, I’ll let everyone down.”
“My needs don’t matter as much as theirs.”
“If I’m not doing everything, I’m failing.”
Through CBT, we worked on reframing those stories. Emily practiced replacing them with new beliefs:
“I am allowed to rest.”
“Saying no can be loving.”
“My value isn’t in what I do—it's in who I am.”
Rewiring Her Subconscious with Hypnosis
Then we brought in hypnosis—a powerful tool for rewiring how she saw herself.
In a relaxed trance state, I guided her to explore two paths:
One was the path of overgiving, exhaustion, and guilt—the one she’d been on for years.
The other was the new path: a calm, empowered version of herself who could breathe deeply, say no with ease, and feel joy again.
She saw this version of herself in full detail—rested, smiling, moving through her day with presence and intention. Her subconscious mind began embracing that version of her as real and possible.
You Can Come Home to Yourself, Too
Burnout isn’t just about working too much—it’s about not being heard, not feeling safe to rest, and believing your worth is tied to performance.
Through holistic therapy for burnout, including tools like EFT, CBT, mindfulness, and hypnosis, we create space for something deeper. Healing from the inside out.
